Rangiroa is an iconic atoll in French Polynesia. The
beaches are beautiful, but not as good like Bora Bora. The problem is that the seabed is not very comfortable due to the broken corals. Rangiroa is good in its low key and laid back feeling - far from the outside world. You'll have a full freedom in all respects. As the atoll is very big, there are a lot of islets without a single person, thus giving great opportunities to find your personal paradise. Shore and seabed: sand, stones.
[edit]
Hotels [edit]
The only upscale resort in Rangiroa is
Kia Ora (from US$500), which also has a sister property on a tiny
uninhabited islet.
All other accommodation options are small family guesthouses near the airport with rooms' rates starting from US$100 per night. It is worth to mention the
Punua et Moana hotel, located on a separate large motu.
How to get there [edit]
Fly to
Tahiti International Airport (PPT), then fly to
Rangiroa airport (RGI). Next hire a taxi or take a boat, depending on where you need.
Keep in mind, that the atoll is very large, so boat trip to a remote motu usually takes about one hour per way. And the boat will run over the lagoon with a fairly strong waves - just like in the open ocean. Therefore, you should be ready for the seasick.
When to go [edit]
The best time for a beach holiday on the islands of Rangiroa atoll is a dry season from April to September.
