Mataiva Atoll
Ultimate guide (December 2024)
Mataiva is a small atoll in the west end of Tuamotu archipelago, French Polynesia. There are no beaches to speak of. Since sea bottom in the lagoon of atoll is too shallow or rocky. However, you will always find a place to swim, - just don't expect too much. And of course, you'll have paradise views with palms everywhere. The lagoon consists of many sand spits, thus being perfect for budget research without any commercial excursions. Shore and seabed: sand, stones.

Hotels [edit]
Pension Ariiheevai and
Mataiva Village are the two main hotels of Mataiva atoll. It is good here, but too expensive, - quite like everywhere else in French Polynesia. It makes sense to take lagoon tours offered by your hotel. So you'll get a good local guide, as well as great BBQ.
