Mai'ao island

Mai'ao is a small island located near the major island of Moorea in French Polynesia. There are no beaches to speak of, since the bottom is shallow and rocky. So this is rather a place for hiking. There is a relatively large lagoon in the south of the atoll. In addition, inside the island, there are two lakes with salt water and some kind of beaches. This is quite like the Dead Sea in Israel. There are no hotels on Maiao island. However, some locals may give you a room. Please ask the owner for instruction on how to get to the island and back.

How to get there [edit]

Fly to Tahiti International Airport (PPT). Next fly to Moorea airport (MOZ) or take a ferry (50 minutes per way - US$15). Next get by a speedboat.

The best time for a beach holiday in Maiao island is a dry season from March to October.
