Mafia island

Mafia is a small island in the south of Tanzania. As well as on Pemba there are no good beaches, because the water is very shallow, making it impossible to swim even during the high tide. However, the coastal scenery is lovely with palms and white sand, - sometimes it's even more picturesque than on Zanzibar. The main attractions in Mafia island are diving and eco-tourism. Hotels [edit]

There are limited number of hotels on the island of Mafia, so during the high season it is recommended to book in advance. The best beaches can be found near the hotels of Butiama, Lua Cheia, Ras Kisimani and Utende. However, you should understand, that anyway it is not possible to swim there.

How to get there [edit]

Fly to Dar es Salaam international airport (DAR). Next fly to Mafia island airport (MFA). There are also direct flights to Mafia island from Zanzibar and from Pemba.

The best time for a holiday in Mafia Island of Tanzania is a dry season from June to October.
