Little Corn Island (Isla Pequena del Maiz) is an island with the best
beaches in Nicaragua. It's rather wild place, though every year there are more and more tourists. Shore and seabed: sand.
[edit]
Hotels [edit]
There are few hotels in the island, but they are poorly presented in international booking systems. In addition, some older accomodation options were closed recent years, but the new ones are opening now.
How to get there [edit]
Fly to
Managua International Airport (MGA). Next fly to
Corn Island Airport (RNI). Next take a ferry from Big island to Little island.
If you have enough time, it is possible to get from Managua to Corn Islands by land / sea. It will be an exciting journey and costs cheaper than fly by the plane. The route is as follows:
- take a bus from Managua (depart from Costa Atlantica Terminal / Mercado Ivan Montenegro at 9 pm) to Rama port (arrive at 3 am);
- take a river taxi from Rama to Bluefields (boat ride takes 1.5 hours and arrives to Bluefields at 7-8 am);
- take a ferry from Bluefields to Big Corn Island (Bluefields Express - Rio Escondido: depart Wednesday at 9 am, back - Thursday at 9 am, one way road takes 5 hours).
When to go [edit]
From December to April, as summer half of the year is the rainy season on the islands.
