Gulangyu island

Gulangyu is an island near the Xiamen city in China. In the colonial era it was a compact settlement for the Europeans, thus buildings looks more like the Mediterranean than China. On the southern coast of the island there are good clean beaches, while motorized vehicles are prohibited. Shore and seabed: sand. [edit]

Average rates of Gulangyu hotels are higher than those in the Big Xiamen. Good room starts from $50 per night. However, it is good value for money, if you stay in a European mansion built in 19th century.

How to get there [edit]

Fly to Xiamen international airport (XMN). Next take a bus to the Dongdu International Terminal in the south-west of Xiamen. Next take a ferry (20 munites per way).

When to go [edit]

Period from October to November is the best time for a holiday in Xiamen. The problem is that summer is a rainy season (March to September), while it is too cols in winter (December to March).
